Registered Behavior Technician

RESPONSIBLE TO:

Director of Student Services

 

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

Skills instruction and behavior reduction protocols based upon principals of Applied Behavior Analysis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Two or more years of college preferred
  • Registered Behavior Technician certification required

Experience:

  • Preference to candidates with experience as a registered behavior technician in an educational, medical/clinical setting
  • At least two years as a registered behavior technician

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide direct student support in 1:1 and group settings utilizing a combination of intensive teaching and natural environment training arrangements. 
  • Follow prescribed behavioral skill acquisition and behavior reduction protocols. 
  • Follow and record data for prescribed toilet training protocols. 
  • Collect, record, and summarize data on observable client behavior. 
  • Assist with parent and caregiver training in line with client’s individualized treatment and behavior reduction protocols. 
  • Effectively communicate with teachers and staff regarding student progress as instructed by the Board Certified Behavior Analyst.
  • Utilize safe & appropriate handing procedures when working with students. 
  • Assist staff with skill acquisition and behavior reduction assessments.
  • Assist teachers and staff in preparing student materials as instructed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work and therapy environment. 
  • Collaborate with school team and behavior team in the design, implementation and revision of strategies provided.
  • Maintain and acquire technical knowledge by attending required trainings.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Implement appropriate de-escalation strategies as provided in training by the district. Must be able to assume and maintain a variety of postures (kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, standing) for extended periods of time. Must be able to sit on the floor or stand for extended periods of time. Must be willing and able to restrain/hold/transport and utilize quick body movements as indicated in the Behavior Intervention Plan in the course of working with children with challenging behavior.

 

Must have manual dexterity to perform specific computer and electronic device functions for data collection. Must be able to receive detailed information through oral communication. Must have visual acuity to read and comprehend written communication through computer, electronic devices, and paper means. Must have reliable transportation and be willing and able to travel between different job sites within the boundaries of Marietta City Schools.

 

Work Environment:

Working conditions are livelier than a typical office environment. The noise level in the work environment is often moderate. Most work requires using a computer and telephone. Interruptions are frequent. Exposure to a copy machine is typical; and electrical fields and electrically charged equipment and moving parts is possible.

  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with teachers, administrators, and parents, and students
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities independently and effectively on a daily basis
  • Ability to use discretion and good judgment when working with students
  • Knowledge of classroom instructional strategies and curriculum applicable to each grade level
  • Knowledge of classroom management and behavioral supports appropriate for students with disabilities
  • Knowledge of school and district policies and practices
  • Knowledge of special education policies and rules
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Willingness to learn Federal, State and local laws regarding Special Education as they pertain to confidentiality and retention/sharing of records (e.g. IDEA, FERPA)
