Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant conducts and oversees local school audits, payroll reporting, fixed asset reporting, general ledger and accounting support within Financial Services, and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) financial software improvements in reporting, internal controls and user interface.
Major Responsibilities:
- Completes audits of local school funds in accordance with the annual audit schedule and as needed. Reports findings to administration on a timely basis
- Manages the monthly audit of procurement card expenditures for schools and departments
- Responsible for payroll tax reporting, the monthly payroll bank account reconciliation, employee benefit reconciliations, supports the processing of payroll throughout the month, and provides a backup to the Payroll Accountant
- Maintains fixed asset records, including preparation of audit work papers and annual reconciliation
- Provides leadership in the administration and maintenance of payroll practices and procedures
- Reviews financial processes and forms for the purpose of recommending efficiency and effectiveness improvements to administration
- Assists with monthly closing entries for the District’s general ledger
- Acts as liaison with the Technology Department to provide ongoing improvements to financial reporting and internal controls in the ERP System
- Supports grants accounting and budgeting during peak times of the year
- Coordinates with schools and departments to resolve financial issues/concerns to ensure policy and procedures are followed
- Assists in the annual external financial audit and preparation of the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR)
- Provides assistance to various departments during monthly closings and budget preparation
- Performs periodic review of financial records to identify and resolve financial issues
- Performs other duties as assigned by Financial Services management staff
Qualifications:
Education:
Required
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or other finance-related field required
Preferred
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certificate preferred. Graduate degree in finance preferred
Experience:
Required
Minimum five (5) years of experience in an accounting role with a proven record of success
Preferred
Seven (7) or more years of experience preferred
Payroll, accounting and/or budget experience in a K-12 education environment preferred
Previous experience with ERP software, specifically Munis ERP desirable
Physical Demands:
Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.
