     School Nutrition Assistant Manager

     Marietta Middle School

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:

     School Nutrition Manager

 

JOB CLASSIFICATION:

     Classified Position: 181-day Employee-At-Will

     FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

     Scheduled work hours: 7 per day

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Assuming any or all School Nutrition operations responsibilities as directed by the School Nutrition Manager

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance                                                          
  2. Responsible for assisting the manager in successfully carrying out the regulations of the state and federal School Nutrition Program relating to food preparation, sanitation, serving practices, and participation
  3. Works under the guidance and direction of the manager to become thoroughly acquainted with all phases of the operation and record keeping of the School Nutrition Program.  Is prepared to carry out management responsibilities in manager’s absence
  4. Responsible to the manager for assigned duties relating to menu planning, purchasing, portion control, serving procedures, work simplification, record keeping and cost control
  5. Assists the manager in ordering and receiving procedures and assists with inventory control
  6. Assumes responsibility under the manager’s direction for preparation and implementation of production and cleaning schedules
  7. Performs under the manager’s direction on-the-job training for all employees in use of equipment, standardized recipes, sanitation, storage procedures, and food handling
  8. If applicable, assists in preparation and delivery of foods to satellite feeding sites
  9. Assists in maintenance of records of food and supplies when received and used
  10. Coordinates the storage and care of food and supplies.
  11. Assists in planning work schedules, completing production records, taking inventories and obtaining substitute workers
  12. Implements local school’s policy in handling all of the collection procedures including those such as non-revenue meals, second meals, and extra food sales
  13. Assist in preparation of daily end of day procedures and bank deposits in cooperation with the cashier. If applicable, deposits money daily at the bank.
  14. Participates in staff development and related workshops as required
  15. Functions as a team player in supporting the school and its many functions   
  16. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the School Principal, Director of School Nutrition Program, and the Superintendent of Schools.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Specialized education and training in Food Service production and management are preferred ServSafe Safety and Sanitation Certified
  • Completion of Orientation for Nutrition Employees (ONE – State Mandated class) preferred
  • Knowledge of simple arithmetic

Experience:

  • One year in non-managerial capacity of School Nutrition Program preferred
  • Varied experience in School Nutrition Program with progressively responsible duties successfully accomplished.                                            

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Basic computer skills (including Microsoft Office Suite) and ability to learn other computer software
  • Ability to successfully collaborate with school personnel and students
  • Proven leadership ability
  • Knowledge of Food Services production through demonstration of same
  • Ability to organize and maintain a scheduled School Nutrition Program
