Education:

 

Advanced Degree in Educational Leadership – required

Eligibility for Georgia certification in educational leadership – required

 

Experience:

 

A minimum of five years of experience in building-level administration and curriculum/instructional programming leadership is required.

 

Classroom instruction experience is required.

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The Chief Academic Officer (CAO) collaborates closely with the Superintendent to drive the district's vision, implementation, and academic programs. With a comprehensive oversight role, the CAO manages all aspects of the K-12 curriculum, academic programs, federal initiatives, policies, charter compliance, assessments, enrollment, and Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) reporting. The CAO leads the strategic planning process for academic initiatives, ensuring alignment with the broader district goals.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Curriculum Development and Implementation
    • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of comprehensive K-12 curriculum frameworks that meet state standards and promote student success.
    • Oversee the selection, adoption, and integration of instructional resources, educational technologies, and innovative teaching practices to enhance student learning experiences.
    • Collaborate continuously with department executive directors, directors, principals, and teachers to ensure the fidelity of implementation of curriculum initiatives.
    • Facilitate and participate in regular curriculum-related meetings.
  2. Learning and Teaching
    • Collaborate with district leaders, principals, and teachers to provide professional development opportunities and support instructional improvement efforts.
    • Manage the administration and analysis of K-12 assessments, utilizing data-driven insights to inform instructional decision-making and improve student outcomes.
    • Monitor and analyze student achievement data to identify areas for growth, intervention, and continuous improvement across all schools and student demographics.
    • Stay abreast of current research, best practices, and emerging trends in education, incorporating relevant findings into district-wide initiatives and professional development opportunities.
  3. Program Oversight
    • Co-evaluate the principal in collaboration with the superintendent.
    • Directly supervises the executive directors and directors in the Office of Academics, Office of Academic Programs, Office of Innovative Practices, Student Information Systems Specialists, and District Social Workers.
    • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implementing the Science of Reading (SOR) and other academic programs and initiatives, making data-informed decisions to drive continuous improvement.
    • Ensures compliance with federal, state, charter, and local regulations related to educational programs, including Title 1, Title II, IDEA, and ESSA requirements
    • Provide instructional coaching for leadership personnel
    • Organize and facilitate consistent administrative meeting schedules.
    • Oversee Choice, Tuition, and Transfer programs.
  4. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning among district staff, promoting effective communication and shared accountability for student success.
  5. Engage with parents, community members, and stakeholders to solicit feedback, build partnerships, and address concerns related to academic programs and initiatives.
  6. Prepare board agendas and frequently deliver presentations highlighting key academic initiatives, progress updates, and recommendations.
  7. Provide leadership and support to district-wide instructional initiatives, including strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation, to advance academic priorities and goals.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software and data disaggregation tools
  • Proficiency in commonly used technology hardware
  • General knowledge of computer systems
  • Ability to interpret and employ education research and studies
  • Ability to handle an extremely demanding workload while maintaining a consistent, positive, and calm demeanor.
  • Possession of excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Possession of high levels of expertise across a breadth of responsibilities associated with all departments managed

Physical Demands:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, walk, stand, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision. Frequent driving performed while meeting the demands of this job. Occasionally, yet essential to this position, the individual must meet deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and other workers. The position frequently requires the employee to work irregular or extended hours. The position requires direct responsibility for the work output of other people and their safety and well-being. The position requires meeting multiple demands from several people.

 

Work Environment:

 

This position frequently requires local travel and occasionally requires travel to distant locations. An individual with this capacity must be able to continuously manage seated office work and active public relations opportunities such as school visits and interfacing with community members.
