ELA/Literacy Coordinator, Grades 6-12

 

RESPONSIBLE TO:

 

Executive Director of Academic Achievement

 

JOB CLASSIFICATION:

 

Certified Position/210 days

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or in the areas of Language Arts, Social Studies, or World Languages required; Master’s Degree preferred. Must hold or be eligible for Georgia certification.

 

Experience:

 

Minimum of three years successful classroom teaching experience required in grade 6-12; Three years supervisory experience preferred. Prior experience with standards-based instruction, teaching of reading, and professional staff development required.

 

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The 6-12 ELA/Literacy Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Executive Director of Academic Achievement in the development and implementation of effective standards-based literacy instruction in all secondary schools, appropriate and balanced assessment, technology integration, and standards-based grading and reporting.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for developing, planning, managing, supporting, organizing, and implementing secondary ELA/Literacy programs throughout the district.
  2. Provides leadership for District-wide initiatives for secondary ELA/Literacy programs.
  3. Provides direction and leadership for the overall administration and coordination of the ELA/Literacy programming in support of effective instructional practices, communication and operational efficiency.
  4. Oversees the development and enhancement of secondary ELA/Literacy curriculum for instructional programs and collaborates with teachers and administration in the development and maintenance of the elementary ELA/Literacy curriculum.
  5. Promotes effective instructional practices and communication that support high levels of instruction through the use of research-based data driven best practices, effective classroom consultation, and program evaluation.
  6. Assists schools in determining the level of implementation of literacy with a focus on extending literacy skills and remedial reading instruction.
  7. Assists administrators in supporting, training, and coaching teachers and staff in literacy instruction.
  8. Designs and delivers training to administrators, teachers, and Instructional Coaches in providing feedback to students to improve instruction delivery.
  9. Identifies resources and supports teachers with differentiation to meet secondary students’ needs in literacy.
  10. Works in collaboration with other departments and areas to maximize teacher effectiveness as it relates to secondary literacy instruction.
  11. Assists administrators in supporting, training, and coaching teachers and staff in the implementation of strong instructional practices related to literacy.
  12. Provides ad hoc reports on the status of standards-based instruction/progress reporting and develops recommendations for improvement.
  13. Serves as liaison between the Division of Academics and Human Capital and Development in all issues related to instructional best practices that are aligned to performance management standards for teachers.
  14. Works in collaboration with other departments and areas to maximize teacher effectiveness as it relates to the curriculum, use of instructional technology, and assessment.

 

NON-PROGRAM DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Performs other duties as assigned by Executive Director of Academic Achievement.

  • Detailed knowledge and experience with standards-based instruction, instructional technology, and assessment best practices related to literacy
  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners across multiple levels

Physical Demands:

 

      Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities.

     

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment
  • Will require travel between schools
