QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education:

Must hold, or be eligible to hold, Georgia teacher certification in the field of the job posted

Advanced degree preferred

ESOL/Gifted Endorsement preferred

 

Experience:

A minimum of five (5) years of highly successful classroom teaching experience 

Experience with instructional coaching or delivering professional development as team lead, department chair, school improvement specialist, or PLC lead required    

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Academic Coach enhances instructional delivery by supporting teachers in their implementation of the district’s curriculum in alignment with the school and district strategic plans. The Academic Coach supports instruction by

  • Coaching teachers, modeling lessons by teaching at least one course, and cultivating best practices in instruction
  • Analyzing data and identifying areas for increased instructional focus
  • Planning meaningful professional development opportunities to improve content knowledge and instructional practices
  • Advise, support and collaborate within professional learning communities (PLC) to improve instructional practices and student achievement

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Facilitates the improvement of teacher instructional practice.
  • Utilizes data to identify areas for instructional improvement.
  • Models lessons, co-teaches, and observes and offers feedback to demonstrate instructional practices.
  • Coaches teachers on effective unit and lesson planning.
  • Shares expertise and knowledge to increase teachers’ content knowledge and delivery.
  • Supports classroom instruction by providing additional resources, including case studies and reading materials and shares knowledge of best practices in curriculum development.
  • Provides individual and/or group mentoring to new teachers to help with instructional practices and classroom management.
  • Plans and develops appropriate curriculum units and lessons that align with the state curriculum standards.
  • Collaborates with teachers on the appropriate depth of teaching through vertically analyzing standards across grade levels.
  • Plans and develops professional learning sessions to meet teachers’ needs.
  • Delivers professional learning content to teachers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with teachers, administrators, parents and students, establishing and maintaining successful working partnerships
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritizing tasks and responsibilities and initiating actions independently
  • Ability to collect and analyze critical data and to evaluate, plan and execute strategies for improving instruction
  • Ability to make decisions, solve problems and recommend solutions in a constructive manner
  • Ability to identify sound professional development practices and to deliver professional development to teachers effectively
  • Expertise in curriculum content and methodology
  • Expertise in utilizing digital resources to maximize effective delivery of curriculum content

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment up to 25 pounds.
  • Dexterity to write on a board, operate a computer, and use other classroom technology.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, and reaching.
  • Clear speech and hearing abilities for effective communication.
  • Visual acuity to read printed and digital materials.

 

Work Environment:

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
