ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Assist bus driver in the safe and efficient transportation of Marietta City School’s special needs students during regular, special and extended bus operations as required.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
All Marietta School Monitor candidates must be able to adhere to or perform to the following minimal standards:
- Must demonstrate prompt and regular attendance.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
- Submit to both a local area criminal background check and national criminal background check. Monitor must report any criminal violations or charges to their supervisor prior to their next duty assignment.
- Must know and adhere to all department operating policy and procedures to include special route schedule maintenance, operation and reporting procedures. And, all system employment requirements as related to organization policy and procedure, and pay and benefits.
- Assist bus driver in conducting required mechanical safety pre-trip inspections prior to each bus run as required. Assist drivers in noting problems in writing and reporting for determination of bus operational status.
- Assist driver during accidents or emergency situations. Assist in completion of accident reports.
- Assist the driver maintaining order on the bus; assist with the reporting of habitual or serious infractions to school or department personnel.
- Assist the driver in keeping their bus clean and equipment operational at all times. Operate, adjust and maintain special needs equipment used for the safe restraint and transport of students with special needs. Identify equipment needing repair, report accordingly and follow up accordingly.
- Take instruction from drivers, supervisory and training staff and system administrators in the proper management and care of students and equipment.
- Attend monthly safety meetings and other scheduled department training.
- Must present an appropriate professional appearance and demeanor while dealing with students, parents, school officials and the general public at large.
- Perform other duties that may be assigned within their scheduled workday.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Must be able to effectively communicate in writing and in speech. Must be able to demonstrate the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Experience:
Monitors must have a minimum of eight hours of classroom training and eight hours of hands-on experience with special needs equipment prior to assignment.
Skills, Knowledge and Performance Requirements:
Monitors must possess the ability to learn to read student Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), help maintain schedules, collect data and write reports, and assist in the maintenance and operation of special needs equipment. Monitor must be able to read, understand and implement
written policy and procedure. Monitors must be able to respond to verbal instructions from their driver, departmental and school personnel. Monitor candidates will be expected to adhere to specific and general operating and management information as it is periodically presented during a given school year.
