Education:
Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate
Master’s Degree or higher Preferred
Recent coursework/training by International Baccalaureate
Experience:
Minimum of five years of highly successful classroom teaching experience
Successful leadership experience
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Providing school-based support for the maintenance of the International Baccalaureate Middle years Programme
Maintaining communication between the school and the International Baccalaureate Organization regarding the Middle Years Programme
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrate prompt and regular attendance
- Coordinate IB Activities at the school
- Contribute to the marketing of the program within and outside the school
- Facilitating access and equity with a program of inquiry and international mindedness
- Organize and conduct informational and discussion sessions with parents, community members, schools, visiting educators and any other interested persons
- Help teachers, students, and parents understand the IB Middle Years assessment criteria
- Provide advice and support to teachers
- Attend IB workshops and professional development activities
- Attend PLC meetings for instruction and assessment support, planning, and professional development
- Participate in the selection of MYP staff at the discretion of the Head of School
- Set and inform all staff of assessment deadlines and the procedures for monitoring of MYP Years 4 & 5 assessment
- Collaborate with other IB Coordinators within the system, in our state and globally (for example, PYP, MYP and/or IB Diploma coordinators)
- Maintain file of materials, correspondence, memos, etc. of all IB Information and activities
- Organize and direct procedures for the 5-year programme evaluations
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To Students
- Provide comprehensive information on the IB Programme, its aims and its requirements to interested students enrolled in the IB Programme
- Ensure that appropriate student records are maintained
- Assist students in planning their IB Diploma Program of study, including choices for Certificate or Diploma, Higher Level, Standard Level, and Sixth Subjects
- Arrange for records of achievement and MYP certificates to be distributed to students and parents
- To Parents/Community
- Provide comprehensive information on the IB Programme to interested parents and community members
- Contribute to the presentation and promotion of IB programs within and outside the school
- Communicate information on the school’s IB Middle Years Programme, face to face and through appropriate documentation, to students, parents, the school community, and the School Board
- Respond to requests for information about the IB programme. This includes organizing and hosting visits from teachers, administrators and any other interested educators
- To IB Staff
- Ensure that appropriate textbooks, resources and facilities are available
- See that teachers have access to complete and up-to-date publications
- Keep teachers and administrators informed of current MYP developments
- Coordinate faculty participation at IB Middle Years workshops and professional development activities
- Arrange for new teacher induction into MYP, providing information and resources of all relevant aspects of the programme
- Meet with departmental MYP leaders and instructional coaches to make sure that the MYP programme is well implemented and monitored
- To School Administration/Management
- Keep the Head of School, DP/CP Coordinator and teachers regularly informed of MYP developments
- Notify the accounts department of IBO payments due, where applicable
- Organize the formal procedures in preparation for awarding of school-based MYP certificates
- Monitor implementation of MYP through classroom observations, monitoring conferences and collection of student assessment evidence.
- To IB Offices
- Serve as a liaison between administration, staff, students, parents and the IB handling all relevant communication with the different IB Offices
- Keep complete records of IBO publications on file and distribute them as necessary
- Organize the standardization of internal assessment according to MYP criteria, as appropriate
- Maintain copies of all MYP correspondence with the IBO, including forms, documents and reports
- Ensure appropriate conditions for the conduct of IBO monitoring of MYP assessment (Year 4 & 5)
- Ensure all administrative procedures be carried out correctly and that dealines be kept according to IB instructions
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Knowledge of IB Middle Years Programme curriculum
Demonstration of strong human relations and organizational skills
Ability to use data to set targets and measure progress
Knowledge of standards-driven reform: curriculum, instruction and assessment
Strong oral and written communications skills
Ability to establish a cooperative working relationship with staff, Heads of School, teachers and Central Office personnel
Ability to perform related administrative tasks
